UPDATE:
Alright, so another scam has emerged, and they are targeting indie authors with ready to publish manuscripts. A friend of mine just shared this link: New indie author scam. Basically, scammers will search your public reviews of editors and freelance workers on places like Fiverr. They search your social media for any information on your current work in progress, who you hired, photographs, handles, etc. Then they wait for your next update. Once they know who you are working with, they copy the photo, name, etc. and impersonate the freelancer, claiming that the impersonated source is moving their business away from Fiverr and if you are still interested in working with them. Once they move the conversation elsewhere, the scammers will try to get a full copy of your manuscript. Then they will try to extort money from you, or they will publish your work online. FYI, with the help of A.I., scammer emails sound more sophisticated, so do not judge a well-written email as a legitimate one.
